Board Past President Dick Campbell: Happy 5th Anniversary OpenSky!

The following is a note from OpenSky Board Past President Dick Campbell regarding OpenSky’s 5th Anniversary:

A big congratulations to OpenSky Policy Institute on celebrating its 5th Anniversary today!

I became involved with OpenSky when the group started in 2011. I joined because they offered unbiased research that helps lawmakers understand their options regarding important financial and budget issues.

With term limits, there is no way someone can come to Lincoln to serve in the Legislature and know all that is needed to make sound fiscal policy decisions. With the release of our primer on revenue and expenses, there was suddenly a concise publication that showed where our state budget funds came from and how they have historically been spent.

This primer instantly became and remains a major asset to our legislators and allows them to study options and make more informed decisions on issues that have far-reaching ramifications for every Nebraskan. Additionally, a primer on education funding was published a couple of years later and proved to be as well-received and useful as the budget primer.

These publications as well as many other efforts to inform important policy debates have helped OpenSky quickly become one of Nebraska’s most-trusted sources of fiscal research and data. Lawmakers, journalists and many others now rely on OpenSky for accurate, non-biased information regarding vital policy issues.

In recognition of our fifth anniversary, we are launching a campaign to raise $30,000 by the end of the year. You can donate online or send a check to the address below to help us celebrate our anniversary and reach our goal.
