OpenSky announces release of ‘Looking for Clarity: An Overview of Nebraska Budget and Tax Policy’
Budget and tax policy decisions directly affect all of us, yet for the majority of Nebraskans, fiscal policy is something discussed and debated by in the halls of the capitol, not around the dinner table.
Legal jargon and the dense language of tax codes can leave the average Nebraskan’s head spinning, but budget and tax decisions affect our schools, roads, and the safety of our communities. We can and we must participate in this important discussion.
To help Huskers decode how Nebraska makes budget decisions and creates tax policy, we have created Looking for Clarity: An Overview of Nebraska Budget and Tax Policy. This easy-to-read primer takes the confusion out of Nebraska’s laws and tax codes and distills it into a concise, manageable summary of how Nebraska collects and spends funds.
Looking for Clarity offers an unbiased look at Nebraska’s budget. We have combined information regarding the budget process, state spending, state revenue, and tax expenditures in one place. Helpful visuals and real-world examples illustrate where taxpayer dollars go.
Additionally, we offer unbiased analysis and explanation about the strengths and weaknesses of Nebraska’s fiscal policy, including a call for tax reform. At a later date we will offer several recommendations to improve the system so it benefits all Nebraskans.
Looking for Clarity: An Overview of Nebraska Budget and Tax Policy will be released to the public on Thursday, July 12th, 2012.
