Since graduating from Omaha North High School, OpenSky Policy Analyst Dylan Grundman’s Nebraska loyalty has been tested through and through. Grundman has bid farewell to Nebraska life three times, each time returning better equipped to tackle his passion of helping make “the good life” in his home state even better. His latest homecoming finds Dylan working with OpenSky to expand economic opportunity for all Nebraskans.

After graduating with a BA Political Science from Arizona State University, Grundman returned to Nebraska for a year before relocating to Ithaca, New York to begin work on his MA in City and Regional Planning at Cornell University.

After another sojourn in Nebraska, he joined the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) as an intern in the State Fiscal Project and was later promoted to a Research Associate with the group. In his tenure at CBPP, Grundman researched the effects of state-level budget and tax changes and contributed to numerous CBPP reports.

While at CBPP Grundman heard about the formation of a new non-partisan policy research group forming in his home state. When OpenSky was officially announced, Dylan jumped at the chance to return home to research and provide solutions to Nebraska budget issues.

Grundman likens his job at OpenSky to the role of a student. When presented with a problem or issue “I research and I have to get the answers right. I also have to be able to communicate those answers in ways that people can understand,” he says. “ But at the end of the day, instead of submitting a paper to a professor, our standard of success is whether or not we made a positive impact for Nebraskans.”

Grundman serves a vital role here at OpenSky, ensuring that our research remains unbiased and data-driven. His contributions keep OpenSky running smoothly. We certainly hope that this time, Dylan’s homecoming will be a permanent one.

Dylan is proud to call Nebraska home again. He lives in Lincoln and enjoys exploring the city’s bike trails and playing basketball and ultimate Frisbee in his spare time.
