OpenSky statement on the State of the State address
The following is a statement from OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Renee Fry about the tax ranking mentioned by Gov. Pete Ricketts this morning in his State of the State address:
“We look forward to having a discussion with Gov. Ricketts about the best tax policy for our state but we’re concerned about the accuracy of the WalletHub rankings that he cited this morning in his State of the State Address. The Nebraska Legislative Fiscal Office has found our state ranks 20th in per capita taxes and 22nd as a share of personal income and the Tax Foundation reports Nebraska ranked 25th in total state and local tax burden. Furthermore, several experts who testified in front of the Legislature’s Tax Modernization Committee reported that Nebraska generally ranked close to the middle in taxes compared to other states.”
