Registration open for 2017 Legislative Symposium!

Registration is now open for our 2017 Legislative Symposium on Friday, January 6th in the Nebraska State Capitol, Room 1525  from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The symposium will feature a panel discussion with former state legislators who helped guide the Unicameral through the budget shortfalls that occurred as a result of the recessions in the early 2000s and the Great Recession. As our current Legislature prepares to face significant budget challenges in the upcoming session, the panelists will discuss their experiences and provide some lessons learned. Panelists include:

  • Sen. Roger Wehrbein, who chaired the Appropriations Committee during the recession of the early 2000s;
  • Sen. David Landis, who chaired the Revenue Committee during the recession of the early 2000s;
  • Sen. Kermit Brashear, who chaired the Judiciary Committee during the recession of the early 2000s and carried legislation to broaden Nebraska’s sales tax;
  • Sen. Mike Flood, who was Speaker of the Legislature during the Great Recession; and
  • Sen. Danielle Conrad, who served on the Appropriations Committee during the Great Recession.

Sen. John Stinner, a current member of the Appropriations Committee, will offer opening remarks.

The event is free but seating is limited.
