The connection between Nebraskans and their government is strongest when all Nebraskans can engage in the legislative process.

We at OpenSky are therefore delighted to have been invited by Speaker Arch to be a part of LR 179, his interim study into public participation in the legislative process. Specifically, Speaker Arch has asked us to compile 5 areas of concern with the public’s ability to engage effectively with the Legislature. To that end, we would like to hear from you –  Nebraska’s “second house” and the people of our state – to get input on your interactions with our Unicameral Legislature.

  • What is the biggest concern you have in interacting with legislative committees during committee hearings?
  • What is the greatest barrier you encounter in ensuring that your voice is heard by Senators and their staff?
  • What other challenges do you face in staying engaged with the work of the Legislature?

We want to hear from you, so we can share your inputs with Speaker Arch. Click here to provide your feedback by Sept. 15. All responses will be anonymous. The Speaker has committed to using results from OpenSky and other policy organizations to inform his office on how to clarify the processes and procedures of the Legislature to support public participation.

Share your input today! We are grateful to you for being a part of Nebraska’s “second house.”
