Support Our Schools Nebraska, a coalition of educators, nonprofits and other groups including OpenSky Policy Institute, kicked off a petition drive on Tuesday seeking to put LB 753 before voters on the 2024 ballot.
The bill provides tax credits for donations to private school voucher programs. In its story, WOWT noted information from OpenSky on how in other states, these tax credits have flowed primarily to the wealthy.
“In Arizona, Louisiana, and Virginia — states with similar programs — analysis found that more than 60% of the tax credits ended up flowing to families with incomes of more than $200,000 per year,” said Dr. Rebecca Firestone, OpenSky’s Executive Director.
