Hundreds of supporters of public education gathered Saturday in opposition to a bill that would provide tax incentives for donations to scholarship funds for private and faith-based schools.
Speaking at Saturday’s rally, OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Firestone said the tax credits proposed in LB 753 will overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy and outlined the potentially dangerous snowball effect that diverting state dollars to private schools could have, citing similar laws passed in Arizona, Louisiana and Virginia.
