Once signature verification is complete, Nebraska voters in 2024 are expected to weigh in on LB 753, a measure passed by the Nebaska Legislature in 2023 to provide state tax credits for contributions to organizations granting scholarships to students attending private schools.

In its story on the tax credits and the effort to repeal LB 753, the Nebraska News Service spoke with OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Firestone, who pointed out the fiscal ramifications of the legislation.

“The state of Nebraska begins to pay for two systems: the public system we’re already paying for and the private system. It is harder to keep two systems going with the same set of resources,” Firestone said.
