Supporters of strong public schools in Nebraska turned in 117,000 petition signatures on Wednesday in an effort to give voters the final say on LB 753, the measure creating private school scholarship tax credits.

In its report, the Omaha World-Herald noted long-standing objections to the dollar-for-dollar tax credits which OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Firestone defined as “government spending through tax policy.”

Once signatures are verified, a vote on repealing LB 753 would be scheduled for the November 2024 General Election.
