OpenSky Policy Institute seeks to hire a Policy and Outreach Intern for the 2021 fall semester. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to assist the Policy and Outreach Coordinator in carrying out grassroots organizing. Duties will include but are not limited to assisting with the coordination of meetings with other nonprofits, constituent outreach, messaging, and other policy related outreach. It’s essential that applicants to this position have strong communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and understand the importance of attending to even the smallest details.

How This Position Advances the Organization’s Work

The Policy and Outreach Intern will assist OpenSky with outreach and policy work leading up to the 2022 Nebraska legislative session. OpenSky is committed to educating and working with stakeholders and others on budgetary, revenue and other policy issues.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

The responsibilities of this position include coordination with the communications and policy teams, to carry out legislative policy outreach. Responsibilities and qualifications for the position include:

  • Attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently, and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to work as a part of a team and enthusiasm for building relationships
  • Schedule and coordinate events
  • Write action alerts and other materials
  • Assist with mailings and print production
  • Compile contact lists.
