KTIC on Dec. 19: OpenSky critical of tax plan

The following is a statement from OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Renee Fry on the tax changes that were being voted on in Congress on Tuesday.

“Under the tax plan being voted on by Congress, the wealthiest Nebraskans and big corporations will see large tax cuts while low- and middle-income residents foot the bill by way of cuts to services they rely on and, in many cases, higher taxes. In fact, the budget instructions laid out a plan that would cut hundreds of billions from Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid and other programs. Furthermore, the tax plan could have a significant impact on state revenue, put increased stress on our already strained state budget and lead to even more cuts to education, health care and other services that Nebraskans need.”
